About Me

Hi, I'm Koppany (pronounced like "co-pine", but you can call me Kop which is pronounced like "cope"), your friendly neigborhood
(assuming you live in the LA area) spiderman engineering madman.
I'm a huge nerd, but not in the anime and video games kind of way. I actually don't play games, but I have other fun hobbies.
I'm basically fully a computer person, and yes, "computers" is a personality. Trust me on this one 😉

I try to live cyberpunk in real life: grey hat hacking, pocket supercomputers, jacking into the matrix, tech built from scratch and surplus, thick power and data cables everywhere.
I take an interest in basically anything technical or scientific such as artificial intelligence, computer engineering, software development, neural interfacing, virtual reality, retrocomputing, physics, space, cyberpunk, etc!
I also work for a super groovy company. I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to figure out which one.
Hobbies
Unicycles

I have a fascination with single wheel vehicles, so naturally I've got one or two. After all, you only really need a single wheel anyways 😎 (a secret that the Big Two Wheel and Big Four Wheel industries don't want you to know)
I've got an InMotion V5F electric unicycle which I was able to learn to ride in only about 2 hours (thanks to years of manual unicycle experience). I mostly use it for getting to the local stores, but I want a bigger faster one because I like speed! Carving and weaving on a single wheel is really fun, and I can imagine it only gets more fun with a more powerful wheel.
I also ride a manual 20" unicycle for fun (click image to see it in action). I primarily like to go long distance riding, my record is 7.5 miles, but sometimes I also try to learn tricks (like the idling in the image). Unfortunately, I've basically stopped riding it once I got the electric one, since the electric one goes way farther and faster and I find it generally more fun.
I can also juggle on a unicycle, but don't ask me to show you since I haven't practiced it in soooo long.
Pen Spinning

I spin pens for fun (click image to see it in action). This is mostly a passive thing I do when bored, but I also have a set of LED spinning pens for use at raves. It's like poi but smaller and less cool.
This specific move where it spins around the back of my hand and ends up at the pinkie is one I developed myself in highschool.
Making/DIY
This is the part where I'm a traditional engineering nerd, a "jack of all trades". I build electronics, design hardware, 3D model, 3D print, write software, and so much more! I also like physics and have a need to custom build everything, yet design nothing permanently (heavy inspiration taken from Japanese woodworking).
See the Portfolio section for examples.
Hardstyle

I'm a huge hardstyle fan, and a reverse bass addict (but it's not a problem if I don't admit it). Normally listening to music wouldn't count as a hobby, but when you consider how much hardstyle I listen to, I think an exception can be made.
I also like to go to hardstyle events if possible. My local hardstyle festival is Basscon
in San Bernardino. I saw Da Tweekaz there and Dr. Phunk and Sub Zero Project (and more!) and even had a magical close encounter of the 3rd kind
with DJ Bassbrain. There's also Project Z which has a hardstyle stage where I got to see
Adrenalize (shown in picture) and TNT and Darren Styles play (along with other big names!).
Other hardstyle legends I've seen in person (in no particular order): DJ Isaac, Lil Texas, Brennan Heart, Coone, Atmozfears, Keltek, Frontliner, Geo, Hixxy, Kreation, Radical Redemption, Wasted Penguinz, and The 3 Blokes (Audiofreq, Code Black, Toneshifterz).
Here is a playlist I've been building up for years with only the finest and jankiest hardstyle tracks that I get stuck in my head.

Fun Trivia + Bragging Rights
Hackaday
I've been featured on Hackaday twice! Once for a VR tracker, and once for misusing a 3D printer. I've also had one of my tipline submissions featured as well.
Hackaday has also followed me on Twitter and retweeted this tweet after I got famous for writing Tetris on the Hackaday Supercon badge in assembly by hand.
Surviving College
I somehow survived through college and ended up graduating with a CS+CE degree, departmental honors, and Summa Cum Laude (while working 24+ hours a week as a programmer).
#1 Customer At Subway
Yes, you heard that correctly. I was known as "free cookie guy" because I filled out the survey for a free cookie every day for 3 years when I went to get my daily sub and I'd chat with the staff when I went during off hours.
Breath Holding
Probably the randomest entry, but I can hold my breath for over 2 minutes. In fact, my record is 3.5 minutes. That was done in a room full of people. Needless to say, they were starting to get worried after about 2.5 minutes...
Licenses
Riding A Motorcycle
I've been through the CMSP training for motorcycle usage and am officially licensed with a class M1 license for motorcycling. It's a little harder than it looks, but so much fun, very worth it, would recommend.
Licensed For Radio Operation
I've got a technician class license in radio operation. KM6OBI
Certifications
Certified Baby Goon: Social engineering to make people think I was a goon at DEFCON 31.
Certified Cyborg: I have an xSIID chip in my hand!
Certified Cyber Crimer: Attended DEFCON and survived (thrice!). Did a little bit of hacking.
Certified Cuda Core: I participated in the human shader experiment.
